Pest Education
Almost all pests are unsightly and their appearance often results in psychological distress.  If gone untreated any one of the pests mentioned below can cause significant damage to human health as well as real and personal property and result in large monetary damage. Listed below are some of the specific problems that pests found in the northeast have been known to cause.

Pest Problems Associated
Bed Bugs Bed bugs feed off blood and such feeding results in bites that may cause a rash and skin irritation. Some people are allergic to the bites which results in swollen areas of the skin. For more information on bed bugs, please visit the bed bug page.
Roaches The German roach is one of the most common roaches found in apartments, restaurants, and offices. Many people mistakenly believe that only “dirty” people get cockroaches, but this is a myth. Every home or commercial kitchen has the potential to have a cockroach problem. Because cockroaches tend to frequent garbage cans, sewers, and other disease-laden locations, germs attach to their body that can transfer to food contact surfaces (utensils, plates) during the normal course of roach activities. These include disease-causing bacteria: Salmonella, Shigella, E. Coli, Streptoccus (pneumonia), several helminthes (hookworm, pinworms, tapeworms), and even viruses (poliomyelitis). If this has not convinced you they are bad to live with, cockroaches also produce a powerful allergen that causes allergies and asthma.
Moths There are 2 common types of moths in the northeast. One of which will eat and destroy high end fabrics such as wools, cashmere and silks. The other will infest and ruin grain products and other food products.
Rats Rats are some of the most troublesome and damaging rodents in the United States. They consume and contaminate food, damage structures and property, and transmit parasites and diseases to other animals and humans. Rats live and thrive under a wide variety of climates and conditions; they are often found in and around homes and other buildings, farms, gardens, and open fields.
Bees and Wasps The ability of bees and wasps to sting and move quickly make these insects feared. If stung they can cause serious medical problems as well as damage to property.
Fleas Fleas attack a wide variety of warm-blodded vertebrates including dogs, cats, humans, chickens, rabbits, squirrels, rats, ferrets, and mice. Fleas are a nuisance to their hosts, causing an itching and may result in the host attempting to remove the pest by biting, pecking, scratching, etc. the vicinity of the parasite. More than a simple annoyance, some people and animals suffer allergic reactions to flea saliva which can result in a skin rash.
Beetles Beetles are the group of insects with the largest number of known species. They often cause extensive damage to food, clothing and other property.
Silverfish A silverfish is a small, wingless insect typically measuring from a half to one inch (12–25 mm). Silverfish are typically found in dark areas and eat glue, book bindinggs, paper, photos, sugar, hair, linen, silk and even dandruff. As such, their feeding habits cause damage to property.
Mouse Mice are mostly active during dusk or night; they do not like bright lights. They live in a wide variety of hidden places that are near food sources and construct nests from various soft materials. House mice consume food meant for humans or pets. They contaminate food-preparation surfaces with their feces, which can contain the bacterium that causes food poisoning (salmonellosis). Their constant gnawing causes damage to structures and property.
Ants There are many species of ants. Most infest structures in large numbers and constantly search for food and water. Ants can gain access through the smallest of cracks and crevices.
